This is the '79 BMW M1 Procar. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the M1 Procar was the race car BMW would be entering into Group 4 racing. To do this, BMW Motorsport's head Jochen Neerpasch created the BMW M1 Procar Championship, which ran for two years from 1979 to 1980; after BMW met Group 4 standards, other teams picked up the cars and were used in various championships with varying levels of success. The Procars used a 3.5L M88/1 inline-6 with 470 BHP with a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph), although later tunes fitted them with a turbocharged 3.2L M88/2 inline-6 which produced up to 1000 BHP and a speed of "over 320 km/h (199 mph)". 54 Procars were produced.
