The Mazda MX-5, known as the Eunos Roadster in Japan and the Mazda MX-5 Miata in North America, is a lightweight two-seat sports car manufactured by Mazda. The first generation, internally designated the NA, was introduced in 1989; styled by Tom Matano and Shunji Tanaka, the MX-5 was inspired by post-war British sports cars and aided in the rejuvenation in interest in roadsters after the demise of cars such as the Triumph Spitfire and MG B. The MX-5 was unveiled at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show with a price of $14,000; the car was launched in Japan under the Eunos brand as Mazda was in the process of launching different marques for their automobiles such as ɛ̃fini and Autozam. The MX-5 was originally launched with a 1.6L BZ6E inline-4 mated to a 5-speed M526 manual. Production of the NA ended in 1997 with 431,506 produced.

This casting represents the first-generation of the Mazda Miata, which was produced from 1989 to 1997.
