This is an '87 Toyota Corolla Sprinter Trueno Apex, commonly known as the AE86. Designed at least in part by Nobuaki Katayama, the AE86 was marketed by Toyota from 1983 to 1987 in coupe and lift back configurations. The cars lent themselves well to racing and we're often used to do just that, with drivers such as Keiichi Tsuchiya picking the AE86 as their car of choice. The Trueno was marketed alongside its counterpart the Levin.

Powered by a high-revving 1.6L 4A-GEU inline-4, the AE86 has since garnered a cult following thanks to its appearance as the star car in the Japanese media series Initial D. The car has since been described as "a cult icon, inextricably interwoven with the earliest days of drifting". The car was replaced with the AE92 generation of the Sprinter Trueno in 1987, although it was spiritually succeeded by the GT86 in 2012.

Now this casting was introduced in the December 2020 mix of the Tomica Premium lineup, alongside the JAXA-Toyota Lunar Cruiser. This casting features a "Limited Color" version, which is done up in red. This casting features opening doors and suspension.
