This is a 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi. Designed by Hidefumi Kato, Akira Teshima, Peter Stevens and David Lapworth among others, the 22B STi was a special version of the Impreza WRX STi.

Introduced to celebrate Subaru's 40th anniversary as well as their third consecutive win in the World Endurance Championship, the 22B STi was developed in combination with Prodrive, Subaru's technical partner for the FIA World Endurance Championship. Produced in highly limited numbers, the 22B STi was priced at ¥5m; the "22B" nomenclature is a subject of some debate with a number of different theories as to why the car was named as such.

Under the hood of the 22B STi is a 2.2L EJ22G turbocharged flat-4 mated to a specialized close ratio 5-speed Subaru TY752VB6SZ manual with a driver-controlled center differential. The engine produced 276 horsepower and was enhanced by electronic fuel injection and an IHI RHF5HB turbocharger. The car's bodywork was unique, with wider fenders and a unique hood and other bodywork taken from the Impreza WRC.

The car was built from a WRX Type R chassis and the necessary modifications to make the car a 22B STi were added during production such as the modified fenders and hood. The cars were built for a relatively short period between March and August 1998. 424 were produced, with 400 going to the Japanese market and the other 24 for export; the full allotment of 400 cars for Japan is said to have sold out between 30 minutes to 48 hours depending on who you ask.

Now this casting was designed by Brendon Vetuskey and introduced in 2025 in the Red Line Club. It is in effect an enhanced version of Ryu Asada's 22B mainline casting introduced in 2020. This is currently its only release although a second is expected in 2026.
