This is a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI. Designed by Hiroshi Fujii and introduced in 1999, was a high-performance version of the Mitsubishi Lancer.
The Evo VI, as it was commonly known, was launched on 2 January 1999 and mainly focused on cooling and engine durability. The car received a larger intercooler and oil cooler, new pistons and a titanium-aluminide turbine wheel for RS models, as well as a new bodywork consisting of a new front bumper with smaller fog lights. Various new models such as the RS2 and RS Sprint were introduced.
To commemorate Mitsubishi's WRC success, the Tom I Mäkinen Edition was launched in December 1999. The Tommi Mäkinen Edition was painted in red and also featured various other performance and aesthetic upgrades; it was named for Mäkinen, who gave Mitsubishi their greatest successes in rallying and due to its upgrades was colloquially known as the Evo 6.5. Production ended in 2001 with 10,100 produced.
Powered by a 2.0L 4G63 turbocharged inline-4 mated to a 5-speed manual, the Evo VI was also noted for its rally prowess. Raced by Marlboro Mitsubishi Ralliart in the World Rally Championship from 1999 to 2001, notable drivers of the Evo VI included the aforementioned Tommi Mäkinen, Freddy Loix, Thomas Rådström and Katsuhiko Taguchi. Mäkinen would give the Evo VI (and Evo 6.5) its greatest successes, winning the 1999 Drivers' Championship; with this victory, Mitsubishi had four straight championship wins. Mäkinen, with co-driver Risto Mannisenmäki, would finish 5th in 2000 with a victory at the Monte Carlo Rally. The Evo 6.5 was the last Group A-homologated Lancer Evolution to compete in the WRC, with the next rallying Lancer being designed and homologated strictly for WRC from the off.
Now this casting was designed by Mark Jones and introduced in 2021. This casting has seen six known releases, the last being this one in 2026. A version with a plastic base (but with a separate plastic wing) was introduced in 2025.
