This is a 1993 McLaren F1. Designed by Gordon Murray and Peter Stevens, the F1 was McLaren's first foray into the automotive market. The car was conceived through a sketch by Gordon Murray while waiting for a flight home from Italy in 1988, who then showed it to Ron Dennis who approved it. The F1 began production in 1992, conceived as an exercise to create what Murray thought of as the ultimate road car.
Powered by a 6.1L BMW S70/2 V12, the F1 sends 618 BHP to the rears. With dihedral doors, a carbon fiber monocoque, a central drive position, active aerodynamics and a 6-speed manual, the F1 positioned itself as the ultimate driver's car. With a recorded top speed of 240.1 mph (386.4 km/h), the F1 is the fastest naturally-aspirated car in the world and is often considered one of the greatest, if not THE greatest car, of all time by many enthusiasts.
Notable celebrity owners of the F1 include Jay Leno, Elon Musk, Rowan Atkinson, Nick Mason and Lewis Hamilton. Production ended in 1998 with 106 produced (64 road cars, 5 LMs, 2 GTs, 7 prototypes and 28 GTRs), each with some variation in the design. McLaren still actively maintains the remaining F1s with a specialized program, mechanics and equipment. Prices of F1s at auctions regularly exceed tens of millions of dollars.
Now this casting was designed by Brendon Vetuskey and Ron Wong and introduced in 2024 as an RLC exclusive. The model began development in 2021. It features delicate opening butterfly doors. This is a completely different casting to Ryu Asada's McLaren F1 casting (I compared the two prior).
