This is a Custom 2004 Mazda RX-8. Designed by Ikuo Maeda, the RX-8 is a compact quad coupe produced by Mazda starting 2003 as a successor to the RX-7. Powered by a 1.3L 13B-MSP RENESIS twin-rotor engine mated to a number of different transmissions depending on port configuration, the RX-8 was first unveiled in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show.
Featuring "freestyle" doors, near 50:50 weight distribution and a low polar moment of inertia, the RX-8 features a stiffer chassis and can comfortably seat four people. The car would be discontinued in 2012 due to failing to meet emissions requirements and rising Yen prices, causing Mazda to be unable to justify its continued sale. While it never really reached the popularity of the RX-7, the RX-8 has found a home in the car culture scene in various countries, with many using it for drifting or racing. 192,094 were produced.
The RX-8 also gained some screen cred in 2004, appearing in the film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Driven by Neela (Nathalie Kelley), it is used to drift on a tōge road around Tokyo. It is fitted with, among other parts, a Veilside D1-GT bodykit and wing as styled by VeilSide founder Hironao Yokomaku, carbon fiber painted hood, GReddy turbo kit, Tanabe exhaust system, Takata seats, Nardi steering wheel and Volk GT-AV wheels on Toyo Proxes rubbers. At least two cars were built for the film; one was sold by Newera Imports in 2020 and another is apparently in Pakistan.
Now this casting was designed by Charlie Angulo and introduced in 2023 in the third wave of the Fast & Furious line. This is currently its only release.
