This is a 1994 Nissan Primera GTe Touring Car. Designed by Yoshio Maezawa and Mamoru Aoki, the Primera was a large family car manufactured by Nissan starting 1990. Acting as the replacement for the Bluebird and Auster lines, the Primera was sold in Japan and Europe and as the Infiniti G20 in North America as their entry level luxury sports sedan.
Previewed by the UV.X and Primera X concept cars, the Primera specifically targeted the European market. The first generation, the P10, was launched in Japan in February 1990 and made its way to Europe in September, replacing the Bluebird. The Primera had Nissan's multi-link front suspension applied to a front-wheel drive car for the first time; some UK cars were later exported back to Japan where they were sold under the Primera UK GT name, the first British-built car to be reverse-exported back to Japan. Production ended in 1996.
The Primera also competed in various forms of motorsport, most notably touring car racing in Japan and the United Kingdom where the Primera was marketed. Teams which used the Primera included NISMO, Hasemi Motorsport and Team Impul in the JTCC and Janspeed in the BTCC, the latter being awarded a works contract to build the Primera for the BTCC. These were powered by modified 2.0L SR20DE inline-4s mated to 6-speed Xtrac sequentials. The Primera P10's best result was a win at Fuji Speedway in 1994 in Japan and a number of podiums in the UK; with the discontinuation of the P10 the Primera P10 ceased racing competitively. The P10's successor, the P11, was far more successful in both categories, winning numerous races and even a BTCC title in 1999.
