This is a 1967 Ford Anglia 105E Race Car. Designed by Elwood Engel, the Anglia 105E was the fourth and final generation of the Anglia, Ford UK's small family car offering.
The 105E was introduced in 1959, designed by Engel, a visiting designer from Ford's main American branch; Engel's styling gave the Anglia a notably Americanized look, with sweeping nose lines, muted tailfin and large "eye" headlights. The car was wind tunnel-tested and streamlined by Ford's British engineers, giving it a passing resemblance to a Studebaker or even an early Ford Thunderbird. It sported a backwards slanting rear window, apparently so it would remain clear in the rain.
The car's new styling was joined by something else that was new: a new 1.0L inline-4, later commonly known as the Kent engine, mated to a 4-speed manual with synchromesh on the top three gears. In 1961, a station wagon joined the lineup and in 1962, the Anglia Super 123E joined the lineup as well, featuring various refinements and a larger 1.2L engine.
Described as "disarmingly simple yet thoroughly modern for its time", the Anglia was also taken racing in various categories. One such category is the British Saloon Car Championship, where John Fitzpatrick, driving for Team Broadspeed, won the 1966 edition of the championship driving a 105E. The 105E also found a home in rallying, as well as in grassroots sports sedan racing; the car was a common sight in Australia's Sports Racing Closed series, where many Anglias were modified to their owners's desires. Production of the 105E ended in 1968, being replaced by the Escort. 1,004,737 were produced.
Now this casting was designed by Mark Jones and introduced in 2023 in the Hot Wheels Boulevard series. This depicts an Anglia 105E that would look at home in the Sports Racing Closed series. This is currently its only release.
