This is a '91 BMW M3. Designed by Claus Luthe and Boyke Boyer, the E30 series M3 was the first generation of what was to be as of now six generations of the performance-oriented version of the 3 Series. The E30 M3 began production in March 1986 to satisfy DTM and Group A touring rules. The car featured a different front splitter, rear apron, sill panels among other changes, and was powered by a high-revving 2.5L S14 inline-6. Many E30 chassis were used in various forms of motorsport, such as endurance racing and even as extreme as rally; it was however touring cars where the E30 saw its greatest successes. Production ended in June 1991, with 17,970 produced.
Now this casting was designed by Jun Imai and introduced in the 2012 Hot Wheels Racing series, under the Road Racer sub series. This casting was one of what was intended to be at least four new models in the entire Hot Wheels Racing series; three were ultimately released but one (the Toyota 2000GT) was not, instead being released in the mainline the next year. Funnily enough this casting made its mainline debut the same year. This casting has seen ten known releases, the last being a ZAMAC release for 2020. A new Premium release is on the horizon.
A curiosity: this version of the casting has a rollcage. Many of these versions do not have rollcages.
