This is a 1993 Mercedes-Benz E 36 AMG Wagon Custom. Designed by Joseph Gallitzendörfer, Peter Pfeiffer and Bruno Sacco under Hans Scherenberg, the W124 was the fifth generation of what would ultimately come to be known as the E-Class, with the name change happening near the end of the W124's lifespan.
Noted for its excellent reliability, advanced features and good build quality, the W124 was a success, produced from 1985 to 1996. The range had numerous body configurations, such as sedan, wagon, coupe, convertible, limousine and even a rolling chassis. Facelifts occured in 1989 and 1993. When production ended in 1996, 2,562,143 of all W124 types were produced.
The E 36 was a specialized tune of the W124 overseen by AMG, back in the days when it was an independent engineering company as opposed to a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. The E 36 was first marketed in 1993 and was available in sedan, coupe, convertible and wagon forms. The cars used a 3.6L M104.991 inline-6 developed by AMG, making somewhere between 273 and 287 horsepower, and was produced mainly for the European and Japanese markets. Due to high production costs, few E 36s were produced. 171 E 36 Wagons were produced in total, however the total number of E 36s of all body styles is unclear; a commonly cited figure is about 400.
Now this casting was designed by Mark Jones and introduced in 2022 in the Hot Wheels Boulevard line. Originally introduced with abruptly-ending doorlines, Ron Wong retooled this casting in 2023 to fix them. This casting has seen three known releases, the last being this one in 2025 in the Fast Wagons Car Culture series.
