The Volkswagen Caddy is a reproduction of a leisure activity vehicle with the same name that was produced by the Volkswagen Group since 1980. Interestingly, the name Volkswagen Caddy was only used outside of the North American market. The Volkswagen Rabbit pickup was released to compete with the Subaru B.R.A.T., a similarly-sized vehicle available at the same time. The Hot Wheels casting is based on the European-market variant manufactured between 1982-1984 ('MK1'), as the "Caddy" nameplate was not introduced until 1982 and that specific nameplate was never used in the North American market.
