This is a 1985 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT Apex, known in many circles as the AE86. Designed by Fumio Agetsuma and introduced in 1983, the AE86 was a series of the famed Toyota Sprinter Trueno and Corolla Levin lines, identifiable by their headlights. There was also the similar AE85 line; while the AE86s were designed for performance, the AE85s were designed for economy and mainly differed in the engine department.
Described as "a cult icon inextricably woven with the earliest days of drifting", the AE86 with its high-revving 1.6L 4A-GEU inline-4, was a force to be reckoned with on and off the circuit. This engine produces 128 horsepower and is also used in other such cars such as the MR2, Corona, Celica and Carina. The car remains a highly popular icon especially in the world of drifting, long after its discontinuation; it has been given the pet name of ハチロク (Hachiroku) since.
The AE86 features ventilated disc brakes, a MacPherson strut independent front suspension and four-link live axle in the rear. The car was given a minor facelift in 1986. Production ended in 1987 when the E90 generation of Corolla arrived, along with a new generation of Trueno and Levin, internally known as the AE92. Toyota would restart production of parts for the AE86 in 2021, such as steering knuckle arms and brake calipers; Toyota has repeatedly stated that production of these parts was only temporary and would only available as long as stocks lasted.
Now this casting was designed by Mark Jones and introduced in 2020 in the Boulevard line. This casting has seen sixteen known releases, the last in 2026 in the Car Culture line.
