The Toyota Land Cruiser is a series of four-wheel drive vehicles produced by Toyota since 1950; originally intended for off-roading, the line has since morphed into a luxury SUV. The third generation of the Land Cruiser, internally designated the J40, was introduced in 1960 and produced until 1984; it was available in a number of different configurations, such as pickup and SUV. The FJ45 was a long wheelbase version of the J40 series Land Cruiser, available in a number of configurations such as station wagon, pickup truck and "Troopy" extra long wheelbase troop carrier-like vehicle; the Troopy has since become very popular for recreational use.

This casting features 26 removable parts available as part of a "Mod Shop" package included with the vehicle, such as the wheels, roof rack with tent and spare tire among other parts; these can be removed and rearranged to create multiple different combinations of parts. The parts are either friction-fitted or snapped on depending on the type of part. Some parts do not appear to be used in either of the builds.

This is an '81 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Pickup. Part of the J40 series of Land Cruisers introduced in 1960, the FJ45 was a long wheelbase version of that series available in two- or three-door hardtop, two-door pickup and four-door station wagon versions. The FJ45 was introduced in 1963; the station wagon FJ45 was the shortest lived of all the J40 series, lasting only until 1967 when it was replaced by the FJ55. The J40s were also produced as the Bandeirante in Brazil and the Macho In Venezuela. Production ended in 1984 although it stretched until 2001 in Brazil.

Now this casting was designed by the late Ryu Asada and introduced in 2021 in the HW Hot Trucks series. This casting was not considered a New Model by Hot Wheels when originally introduced which indicates it was planned for another series; I however have no idea what series this casting was intended for although I have a suspicion it was intended for the Premium line. This casting has seen two releases: the above and a black Red Edition release.

Curiosity: this is the first Land Cruiser to enter the lineup since the original Jun Imai-designed FJ40 casting in 2010. I believe they couldn't use that because of a certain lawsuit.

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Pickup was a long-wheelbase, all-wheel drive version of the FJ40 Land Cruiser. The FJ45 was available in numerous different body styles, from two-door pickup to four-door station wagon; the four-door station wagon was noted as being the shortest lived of all FJ40 body styles and derivatives, being replaced after only about seven years of production. The FJ40 as a whole was produced from 1960 to 2001, although production ended in 1984 in Japan.

This is one of three castings introduced in 2021 to debut in the Mainline without being labeled a New Model. This casting was sort of a collaboration between Ryu Asada and Manson Cheung, where Ryu had created the front of the casting with Manson creating the truck bed; according to the latter the casting's front was likely taken from the Matchbox Toyota Land Cruiser, also designed by Ryu. A preview published by the Hot Wheels Design Team on Instagram appears to allude to this casting being a "refresh" of the original Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 casting designed by Jun Imai, which Hot Wheels may have had to discontinue use due to legal issues.
